You Don’t Need Fancy

Most athletes need a basic program. No matter how talented or advanced an athlete is in their given sport, in all likelihood, they are a novice in strength and conditioning. With novice trainees, it is important that they spend time mastering the fundamentals, the same as any other athletic pursuit. Many sports performance programs will try to sell you on this "secret" exercises or their "unique" training system. The reality is that the basics of strength and conditioning work amazingly well for sports performance and have been working well for decades. This following sentiment is true across industries and certainly applies in the world of sports performance:

“Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals.”-Jim Rohn

If you want to build your athleticism, practice great technique and get strong in basic exercises: Squats, presses, deadlifts, kettlebell swings, power cleans, lunges, push ups, pull ups, dips, loaded carries, jumping, sprinting, lunging, planks of all types, etc...

Developing great technique and allowing your body to produce a strength adaptation is a process that takes time. That said, if you are consistent about training the basics, you will get the type of results that you have been after.
